“Tous les -ismes [‘All the -isms’]: 19th-century French Painting”
5 classes: January 14, January 21, January 28, February 4, February 11 | 8-9pm EDT
Course description: The 19th century in France was the century that changed art forever! This course will teach you some of the most famous art history movements of 19th century France (e.g., Impressionism, Realism, Romanticism, etc.) and immediate predecessors leading up to the 19th century, such as Rococo. Sign up & discover how learning the many “movements” of this century will help you situate much of European art history in its broader context, and better navigate your future visits to art museums. Along the way, you’ll view many of the most important and beautiful artworks by the most influential artists of the 19th century! The class takes place across five Tuesday evenings in the heart of winter, live over Zoom from the comfort of your home .
Our last class will include a virtual “visit” to the famous Musée d’Orsay in Paris, which houses one of the largest Realist and Impressionist collections in the world!
