Bienvenue ! (Welcome!)

Dear Future Student,

Bonjour et bienvenue ! I’m delighted to teach you one of the most beautiful and useful languages on our planet!

Did you know that…

French is the only language spoken as an official language on all five continents

Approximately 60% of our words in the English language come from Latin – but they came down to us through French, which is why learning French is one of the best ways for kids to improve their English vocabulary

France has the seventh-strongest economy in the world, despite its small population and size

France is also among the top five foreign sources of employment in 45 U.S. states and among the top three in 24 states

French-affiliated companies created more than 100,000 jobs in the U.S. in a five-year period (2017 – 2021, most recent data)

In 2020, U.S. employees in French-affiliated companies earned, on average, $73, 300 —  almost $20,000 above the US average wage

In addition, French is the language of:

… the country that receives the most tourists per year (France!)

… literary greats such as Montagne, Molière, Pascal, Colette, Proust, Sartre, Camus…

… many of the greatest operatic works (from Phèdre to Les Miserables) of the Western Canon

… the artists behind many of the most well-known artworks and art movements (Impressionism, Romanticism, Classicism, Realism, etc.) of the Western Canon

Whether you are signing up for my academic French language course series for home school students which is also designed as a college prep course, for my French for Travelers class which will teach you the basics of the language and important cultural tidbits to help your trip be easier, or for an Art History short course with art from France as its focal point, my primary aim is to help you get comfortable, competent, and confident with the language and culture of France.

A bientôt !

Bien cordialement,

Laura
